Napster and Tower Records have launched a mobile music service available to NTT DoCoMo's Music and Video Channel subscribers for a monthly fee of 315 Yen (£1.40). Two new programs are available as part of the service with 8 to 10 tracks each which will be updated weekly. Subscribers can listen to the programs up to three times per week. 'Napster Hits!' plays new releases and current chart hits. 'Tower Records Must-Hear Recommendations' offers genre playlists and older chart material. Both channels promote links to Napster Mobile's subscription service and the a-la-carte music download store. The service is available on 22 NTT DoCoMo handsets.

NTT DoCoMo's Music and Video Channel has been available since August 2006 and costs 315 Yen per month (£1.40), the same price as the additional Napster/Tower Records programs. In a market where over 90 per cent of digital music downloads are mobile and subscription models are dominant, increasing the music content available should encourage uptake even if at extra cost.
