HP launched its answer to the Apple iPad today – the TouchPad. This tablet borrows a lot of its specification highlights from the iPad - 9.7” 1024x768 screen, 16 or 32GB of NAND storage, and weighs 1.6lbs. One area where the TouchPad differentiated itself from the iPad is in DRAM content. The TouchPad sports a full GB of DRAM – and it will need all of it. With a dual core processor, 1.3 MP camera, and true multitasking the TouchPad could actually take advantage of even more DRAM.
While Apple will undoubtedly increase the DRAM content of the iPad2, it is encouraging to see the 2011 tablet already being dominated by 1GB tablets. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see 2GB tablets before the end of the year.
