The kick-off of the 3G network in 2009 and the launch of smartphones have finally enabled Chinese carriers to broaden their LBS portfolios. Prior to the official start of the 3G era in China, due to the small bandwidth, slow internet connection, and scarce handset support, all of the three Chinese wireless carriers experienced a hard time to promote Location Based Services (LBS).
